In terms of home gyms, the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is not all that large. Yes, it is a full strength training workout station, so it will take up a fair amount of room, but in terms of home gyms, being an entry level model, this one is pretty compact. Assembly

While all of the instructions for assembling the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym are very clear, and all of the parts and tools are included, keep in mind that this is a fairly heavy and big piece of equipment. It is definitely recommended that you have at least 1 or even 2 other people helping you with this as it will make life much easier. With another person on your team, it should not take more than an hour to get the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym up and running.

What We Like About The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is a fairly impressive home gym option to consider, so let’s talk about why we like it as much as we do.

One of the things that we do like about the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is that it is strictly oriented towards weight training. It comes with a 112-pound vinyl weight stack that is enclosed. The weights themselves are very solid, built to last a long time, and are safe to use thanks to their enclosure. Moreover, changing the amount of weight you lift is nice and easy thanks to the easy adjust peg system. Also, the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym can provide you with up to 280 pounds of resistance, which is quite impressive.

We also like the fact that the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym does provide you with a near full body workout. It comes with dual function arms that can be used for presses and flies for working out your chest and upper body. It also comes with a multi-grip high lat bar for working out your lats, shoulders, and arms.

The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym also features a great leg developer where you can do leg curls and extensions. There is also a low pulley with a handle for seated rows and other upper body exercises too. You can actually exercise virtually every muscle in your body with the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym, which is clearly a big advantage.

Something else we like about the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is that it does have a comfortable seat and adequate backrest. Both of these items are well padded and covered with a vinyl coating for long lasting durability. Moreover, the leg developer features 4 padded foam rollers for the comfort of your ankles and knees. Also, the chest station comes with great handles with solid grip, plus excellent foam padding too. The bottom line is that the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is made to be comfortable to use.

We also like how the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym has a frame built of steel tubing for versatility. It has a stable base, strong connectors, and an overall high-quality build. Also, the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym has a 300-pound user weight limit, which by all means is pretty high.

What We Don’t Like About The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

There are a couple of things which could definitely be better about the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym, so let’s just quickly talk about those.

We don’t like how the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym only includes 112 pounds of weight. This may be ideal for anyone looking for a light or moderate workout but is probably not heavy enough for really serious weight training enthusiasts.

We don’t like how the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is missing a preacher curl pad, something that most home gyms should come with in our eyes. Working out your biceps is one of the only things that is hard to do with this model.

Alternatives To The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

To give you some good perspective on what you are buying with the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym, let’s talk about a couple of alternatives to it.

Marcy MWM-990 150 lb Stack Home Gym

This model is very similar to the XRS 50 Home Gym, but with just a few key differences. The Marcy MWM-990 has 150 pounds of weight instead of the 112 pounds which the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 comes with. Also, the MWM-990 does come with an extra preacher curl attachment for your biceps. That being said, the Marcy MWM-990 is going to cost you a bit more than the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym. Other than that, both models are nearly identical.

Total Gym 1600

The Total Gym 1600 is quite different in the sense that it is not a classic weight training home gym like you are probably used to. The Total Gym 1600 is oriented more towards a good mix of strength, cardio, and flexibility training, as opposed to the pure weight training purposes of the XRS 50. That being said, the Total Gym 1600 does allow for over 60 exercises, which the XRS 50 does not, plus it is also very small, compact, lightweight, and easy to store as well. The Total Gym 1600 makes a good alternative if you want a more well-rounded workout routine, not just weight training.

Final Thoughts On The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

Overall, the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is a fantastic option to go with. It is a very affordable yet useful and durable home gym option that is oriented purely towards strength training. It will provide anybody of a low or moderate fitness level with a big challenge, but may not be enough for the really big boys out there. That being said, for the low price that the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym comes in at, it is definitely one of the best entry level home gym options out there.
