What We Like About The Weider Ultimate Body Works Home Gym

The fact of the matter is that the Weider Ultimate Body Works has many things that we really like about it, which is quite surprising considering that it is one of the most affordable home gym options.

We do like how the Weider Ultimate Body Works home gym allows for a full 50 exercises that can be done with it. This particular home gym features a moving seat, multiple exercise positions, handles, pulleys, cables, and even a squat stand too. You can work out literally every last muscle on your body with the Weider Ultimate Body Works. The rolling seat which the Weider Ultimate Body Works comes with allows for an even greater range of possible exercises. On a side note, the rolling seat is lined with great padding and a vinyl cover for ultimate comfort and durability at the same time.

What we also like about the Weider Ultimate Body Works is that it features more than one type of resistance. First of all, it has an adjustable incline that can be adjusted to 7 different positions. This allows you to adjust the resistance you are challenged with using nothing but your own body weight and the incline of the seat. The Weider Ultimate Body Works also comes with 4 resistance bands which can give you a total of 50 pounds of extra resistance.

We like how the Weider Ultimate Body Works is not only meant for strength training. Anyone who performs Yoga or Pilates can also use this item for flexibility, balance, and mobility training. The special cords, pulleys, bands, and the moving seat allow you to really push yourself to the limits of your flexibility. Many different Pilates poses can be done with the Weider Ultimate Body Works home gym. Being able to use the Weider Ultimate Body Works for both strength and flexibility training is definitely a bonus.

Another thing that we really like about the Weider Ultimate Body Works is that it is very small, lightweight, and compact. This item weighs well under 100 pounds and has a small footprint too. In other words, you don’t need very much space to house the Weider Ultimate Body Works. Moreover, it can be folded down flat and rolled into any small space. Even a small closet can accommodate the Weider Ultimate Body Works, or even under your bed too.

What We Don’t Like About The Weider Ultimate Body Works

While the Weider Ultimate Body Works may be a great total gym that comes in at a very affordable price, there are a couple of drawbacks that come with it.

The Weider Ultimate Body Works does use its incline as well as resistance bands to provide you with a challenge. However, the challenge is only moderate, making this home gym less than ideal for anyone looking to do some really serious strength training. On the other hand, it does allow for balance and flexibility training, so there is a certain tradeoff here.

As the description notes, the Weider Ultimate Body Works is made with more than one chemical which is known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive problems. While this may not be a concern to some people, it definitely is to us.

Alternatives To The Weider Ultimate Body Works

To give you some perspective on what some of the alternatives to the Weider Ultimate Body Works are, let’s take a quick look at a couple of them.

Marcy MWM-990 Home Gym

The Marcy MWM-990 is a lot bigger and heavier than the Weider, plus it requires a good amount of space to use and store. Unlike the Weider Ultimate Body Works, the Marcy MWM-990 is definitely not mobile or portable. Moreover, the Marcy MWM-990 is much more ideal for serious weight training, whereas the Weider is good for it, but better for flexibility training. That being said, the Weider Ultimate Body Works is going to cost you several hundred dollars less than the Marcy MWM-990. Surprisingly enough, the Weider home gym does allow for a greater variety of exercises, but none of them are as good for muscle strengthening as the exercises allowed by the Marcy MWM-990.

Total Gym 1600

Total Gym 1600 Review

This Total Gym 1600 is actually very similar to the Weider model reviewed here. The Total Gym 1600 is a little more expensive, which is because it has a few more features. It comes with a few more attachments and lets you do over 60 exercises instead of 50 like the Weider Ultimate Body Works allows for. Both are ideal for a good mix of light strength training, cardio, and flexibility training. The Weider is a little smaller and more compact, plus a little lighter too, making it a little more convenient to use and store in your home. However, in the grand scheme of things, both of these are fairly similar.

Final Thoughts On The Weider Ultimate Body Works

All in all, the Weider Ultimate Body Works Home Gym is a really good affordable option out there. It is one of the most affordable home gym choices to go with at the moment. Even though it is cheap, it still has a good build quality. Also, it can provide you with over 50 different exercise choices, various levels of resistance, and comfort too. It may not be all that ideal for pure hardcore strength training, but it does provide a good mix of light strength training, cardio, flexibility, and balance training too.
