What We Like About The Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym

The Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym does have a few particular features that we really do like, so let’s go over those in some detail right now.

One of the things that we like the most about the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym is that it can provide you with over 330 pounds of resistance thanks to the included 125-pound vinyl weight stack. If you are looking for a great piece of equipment that is oriented towards weight training and muscle strengthening, the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym is a good option to consider.

Something else that we really like about the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym is that it comes with various workout stations for a full body strengthening tool. It comes with a hanging multi-grip lat bar for your arms, lats, shoulders, and more. The Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym also comes with a dual function arm station that allows you to perform chest presses and the fly. Moreover, the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym comes with a preacher curl pad to exercise your biceps. The preacher curl pad can be adjusted and removed when you feel like it.

Furthermore, this model also includes a leg developer so you can work out your legs. As you can see, you can exercise virtually every muscle in your body with this one tool.

We also like how the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym is very comfortable to use. It features a well-padded and vinyl covered seat and backrest. This is great for keeping your butt and back comfortable and well supported throughout your routine, plus the vinyl is easy to clean too. Also, the leg developer and upper arm station both feature great rollers and padding to ensure your comfort whenever you use the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym.

The fact that the weight stack of the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym is easily adjusted is also a benefit. It uses a simple pin lock mechanism to adjust the weight, plus it is partially enclosed, which makes it fairly safe too.

What We Don’t Like About The Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym

There are just a couple of things which we do not like about the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym, so we are going to have to mention them.

One of the things that could be better about this model of home gym is the number of exercises available. While the number is not bad, it is not great either. While the XR 55 does have a low pulley, it does not have any kind of attachment for a seated row, which is an exercise choice that we would really like to see present.

Only coming with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, if something breaks after that time, you will not be covered. We find that the warranty could definitely be improved upon.

Some people have noted that the cable and pulley system does start to wear out with prolonged daily use.

Alternatives To The Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym

So you have a bit of a reference point, let’s take a look at some of the other possible home gym options out there.

Gold's Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

Gold's Gym XRS 50 Home Gym Review

The Gold's Gym XRS 50 Home Gym is in all reality fairly similar to the XR 55, but there are a few key differences. For one, the XRS 50 comes with a 112-pound stack, whereas the XR 55 comes with a 125-pound stack. Also, the XRS 50 has a low pulley attachment with a grip and ankle cuff for various leg, upper body, and rowing exercises. The XR 55 does not have this. All in all, they both make for good options, but the XR 55 is a little more expensive, by around $100 bucks, or even a little more. They are both about the same size and both have good features but is seems as though the XR 55 is more expensive for only marginally more weight, not to mention a missing low pulley attachment, but it comes with a preacher curl pad.

Total Gym 1900

The Total Gym 1900 is a good alternative to the XR 55, but it is in all reality a very different piece of equipment. The Gold’s Gym XR 55 is oriented purely towards strength training, whereas the Total Gym 1900 is meant more for light strength training combined with cardio and flexibility training. Both items do provide for a full body workout, but the XR 55 is all about muscles, where the Total Gym also incorporates other exercise elements. Both are great in their own way, but it depends on what you need from them. What can be said is that the Total Gym 1900 is much lighter and more compact.

Final Thoughts On The Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym

At the end of the day, the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym definitely makes for a good entry level home gym option. It comes with a decent amount of weight, making it ideal for most fitness levels, it is durable, stable, and has the ability to exercise virtually every muscle in your body. If you don’t mind taking up a bit of space and spending some time on assembly, the Gold’s Gym XR 55 Home Gym option makes for a great muscle strengthening tool.
