Why Do I Need Running Gloves?
Running gloves can make some great additions to your outdoor running routine, so let us tell you why. First of all, running in the wee hours of the morning, later at night, or in any cold season is not fun because it can really put a hurt on your fingers. Nobody likes cold fingers while running and a good pair of running gloves can definitely help keep your hands warm. While keeping your fingers nice and toasty, a good pair of running gloves will also let you use your touchscreen device without having to take them off.
Also, a good pair of running gloves will help to wick away moisture and keep your hands sweat free. Sweaty hands are definitely very uncomfortable to have, something that running gloves can help with. Running gloves can also help to provide you with some good grip so you don’t drop your phone or water bottle while running.
Moreover, a decent pair of running gloves will help keep the elements away including wind, snow, and rain. Even better is that running gloves can be worn under thicker winter gloves in case it gets really cold out there. Also, many running gloves come with reflective elements so that cars will clearly see you when you are running on the street during dark hours.
What To Look Out For When Buying Running Gloves
Running gloves are not going to be all that expensive, but you still don’t want to waste any amount of money on running gloves that won’t suit your needs. So, here are some of the most important considerations to keep in mind before you make your final purchase of running gloves.
Insulation
Without a doubt, the most important thing to look out for when buying running gloves is how well insulated they are. Now, the gloves you get and their warmth factor does depend on the time of day you run at, the season it is, and the climate you live in. For example, if you are running in the wee hours of the morning or live in a cold climate, you will want to find a pair that is very well insulated for warmth. On the other hand, milder climates mean that thinner gloves will do just fine. This does greatly depend on your own needs and the conditions which you usually run in.
Breathability
Another important factor to keep in mind before making your purchase is how breathable the gloves are. You definitely want a pair of running gloves that is fairly well ventilated, especially when running in mild or warmer conditions, because you do not want your hands getting too hot and sweaty. That being said, if you are going to be running in very cold conditions, then ventilation is not such a big issue.
Protection From The Elements
Yet another important thing to look out for when it comes to running gloves is how well they protect your hands from the elements. You are going to want to find a pair of running gloves that is both waterproof and windproof too. Wind can really make your hands cold and so can rain or snow, not to mention that nobody wants wet hands when running. If you live in a drier climate, then this is also not such a big factor. On a side note, a good pair of running gloves will also have a good inside layer that helps to wick away moisture from your hands, something that can be uncomfortable and even cause blisters too.
Reflectivity
The next thing to consider before buying any pair of running gloves is whether or not they have any reflective properties. This more or less comes down to whether you like to run during dark times of the day or not. If you like to run in the dark, then a pair with reflective properties is ideal for safety because it will allow cars to see you with increased ease.
Texture
Another thing to keep in mind before making a purchase is the texture. To be specific, a pair of running gloves with a fairly rough or textured palm is ideal so that you can securely hold onto a phone, music player, or wattle bottle while running without fear of dropping them. Moreover, having a special texture on the thumbs or fingers which will let you use a touchscreen device without having to take them off is obviously a big bonus.
